pH probe maintenance
Both KH keeper and pH meter are equipped with pH probes. The probes work in harsh environments and they can get covered with biological film decreasing their capability to take accurate and consistent measures.
That is why it is very important to regularly clean and maintain the pH probe. We recommend cleaning the probe before each calibration. In this article, we will describe step by step how to clean your pH probe in your pH probe-equipped Reef Factory device.
Preparation
To do the maintenance you will need:
a soft, absorbent and dry cloth
deionized water (RO water is also considered deionized)
dissolvent that can easily dissolve biological substances. We recommend using Reef Factory dedicated Cleaning Solution, alcohol or isopropyl alcohol in high concentrations.
small container for waste
Cleaning
Don’t wipe the pH probe with the cloth
Don’t touch the pH probe with your fingers
Take the pH probe out of the beaker/holder
Rinse the pH probe with deionized water
Absorb the excess water with a dry cloth. There is no need to dry it completely (touch the pH probe with cloth and it will absorb the water)
Rinse the pH probe with the dissolvent of your choice
Rinse it with deionized water once more
Now you can install the pH probe back in your aquarium or proceed with the calibration. Here is another article describing the calibration process:
