We are very happy that you have decided to upgrade your pH probe in your KH keeper. The process is virtually the same as the replacement of the regular pH probe. In this guide, we’ve described the lab-grade pH probe replacement with easy to follow steps and the instructional video.
Please note that the upgrade kit was a one time offer for the standard KH keeper owners. The replacement process described in this article is only relevant for the standard KH keeper (non-Plus/Pro version)
The upgrade kit you have received includes:
pH4 and pH7 buffer fluids for calibration
lab-grade pH probe
lab-grade pH probe’s holding adapter
Before you start replacing the pH probe, please find a place with good lighting and clean the work surface. To perform the pH probe replacement only tool you will need is a medium-sized, (crosshead) Philips head screwdriver.
Remember to unplug the device from the power source before opening the housing to prevent damage to the internal circuitry and components.
To upgrade your pH probe please follow the steps below:
Remove the transparent front cover
Unscrew four screws holding the backplate and remove it
Take out the regular pH probe and the red nozzle from the glass beaker
Twist the orange pump head counterclockwise until it clicks and slide it of the motor shaft
Loosen the four screws holding the head mounting plate
While holding the nut from the inside drive the screw holding the stepper motor. You will need to remove both screws to remove the motor.
Remove the motor
Unplug the BNC connector. The plug is locked and it has to be twisted counterclockwise to release it.
Remove the pH probe
Put the lab-grade pH probe BNC connector through the hole, connect the BNC plug and lock the plug by twisting it clockwise.
Put the cable in the cutout below the mounting hole for the reagent pump
Install the stepper motor and screw it in
Put the backplate on and screw the four screws in place
Flip the KH keeper and tighten four screws holding the head mounting plate
Slide the reagent pump back onto the shaft into the groves and twist it clockwise until it clicks
Put the red reagent nozzle back into the glass beaker
Slide the remaining lab-grade pH probe cable back into the device housing
Place the holding adapter (white part with the cutout) on the lab-grade pH probe’s signal cable and move it towards the pH probe as far as possible. Please don’t use excessive force.
Unscrew the cap holding the protective liquid container
Remove the container and the cap from the lab-grade pH probe
Put the lab-grade pH probe inside the glass beaker. The probe should be held in the stand by the adapter
Fill the beaker with aquarium water to about 60ml mark
Keep the lab-grade pH probe in the water for about 30 minutes
Proceed with the calibration of the new pH probe. You can find more about this here - Calibration process for KH Keeper's pH probe
