Salinity guardian salinity probe cleaning

Inside the bore of the probe, there are two graphite electrodes that need to be completely cleaned by grinding. This operation ensures that the thin, contaminated layer of graphite and surrounding plastic will be removed, and the probe will return to full function.

Items needed:

  • salinity probe

  • container with RO water

  • cloth to dry the probe

  • a file to regenerate the graphite electrode

  • new calibration fluid 35 ppt at 25 Celsius degrees

  1. Disconnect the probe from the device

  2. Soak the probe and file in RO water for min.  5 minutes

  3. If there are large debris or deposits inside the probe, remove them with the leading edge of the file or a soft toothbrush. Rinse the probe afterwards. 

  4. Insert the file into the hole in the probe and gently sand the side surfaces by pressing the file evenly. Then repeat the operation on the opposite side of the hole. Try to sand the graphite oval on the inside of the probe, shown in red in Fig. 1, so that it takes on a grey colour over its entire surface. 

  5. Rinse the probe thoroughly in RO water and dry the probe.

  6. Connect the probe to the unit and insert into a 35 ppt reference fluid at 25 degrees Celsius.

  7. From the Salinity guardian menu in the Smart reef app, select SETTINGS -> Probe calibration

  8. Wait 1 to 5 minutes and then confirm calibration. (Leaving the probe more than 30 minutes in the calibration solution may result in incorrect calibration)

  9. Rinse the probe and place it back in the probe holder.

Czyszczenie sondy zasolenia Salinity guardian

Wewnątrz otworu w sondzie znajdują się dwie elektrody grafitowe, które należy poddać kompletnemu oczyszczeniu przez szlifowanie. Operacja ta sprawia, że cienka, zanieczyszczona warstwa grafitu oraz otaczającego go tworzywa sztucznego zostaną usunięte, a sonda wróci do pełnej sprawności.

  • sonda zasolenia

  • pojemnik z wodą RO

  • ściereczka do osuszenia sondy

  • pilnik do regeneracji elektrody grafitowej

  • świeży płyn kalibracyjny 35 ppt w temperaturze 25 stopni Celciusza

  1. Odłącz sondę od urządzenia

  2. Namocz sondę wraz z pilnikiem w wodzie RO przez min. 5 minut

  3. Jeśli we wnętrzu sondy znajdują się duże zanieczyszczenia lub osady usuń je za pomocą czołowej krawędzi pilnika lub miękkiej szczoteczki. Po tej czynności opłucz sondę.

  4. Włóż pilnik do otworu w sondzie i delikatnie szlifuj powierzchnie boczne dociskając pilnik równomiernie. Następnie powtórz operację na przeciwległej stronie otworu. Staraj się szlifować owalne grafitowe elementy we wnętrzu sondy zaznaczony na czerwono zdj.1. tak aby uzyskały one szary kolor na całej swojej powierzchni.

  5. Dokładnie wypłucz sondę w wodzie RO i osusz sondę.

  6. Podłącz sondę do urządzenia i włóż do płynu referencyjnego 35 ppt w temperaturze 25 stopni Celsjusza

  7. Z menu Salinity guardian w aplikacji Smart reef wybierz USTAWIENIA -> Kalibracja sondy

  8. Odczekaj od 1 do 5 minut, a następnie potwierdź kalibrację. (pozostawienie sondy powyżej 30 minut w roztworze kalibracyjnym może spowodować nieprawidłową kalibrację)

  9. Wypłucz sondę i umieść ponownie w uchwycie.
