 How it works?

The KH keeper measures water from the aquarium. If kH drops too quickly between measurements the device will repeat the test and if the result is confirmed will send a notification to the user. An aquarist can set a value in the measurement difference. The tested water can be returned to the aquarium or go to the waste container, depending on user preferences. Everything is controlled by the Smart reef application and can be connected with our other devices.

What do I need to run a device?

To run the device at your aquarium, you only need access to your home WiFi network, electricity, a mobile device (smartphone, tablet, computer or laptop) with the Smart reef application installed and our reagent solution.

Where should I place the device?

You can place the KH keeper wherever you want so that it has access by the hoses to the aquarium, water waste and reagent solution. The device is designed in such a way that you can place it in a visible place or hang it on the wall.

How to prepare KH Keeper Reagent solution?

To prepare the solution You will need RO water. For every 1 unit of reagent, You will need 9 units of RO water. Remember to use precise amounts of each liquid for the mixture as it is very important for KH keeper to function properly. The table below contains volumes of liquids used to prepare a set amount of solution.

What is a small magnet included in the kit for?

The magnet included in the kit is used to reset the device. If you want to restore the device to factory settings, apply the magnet to the area marked “RESET” above the hoses plugs and hold for 5 seconds. After this time, the device turns off and restarts. This means that the device has been reset.

What is a small pill inside the measuring cup for?

The small pill inside the measuring cup is a magnetic stirrer that is mixing the reagent solution with water from the aquarium. Please pay attention and don't lose it.

I have information that my device’s software is an old version. How to update to a new software version?

Please see below our online tutorial on how to update your device to the latest software version. We have described there a few cases.

How to correct disassembly the glass beaker to make a calibration?

Please see below our video tutorial on how to correct mount and dismount the glass beaker.

How much reagent device uses for one test?

The amount of reagent solution that is used during the measurements is small and depends on the kH level in the tank (from 5 to 15 ml).

Is it safe to have wasted water back to my aquarium?

Yes. It is fully safe to have wasted water back in the aquarium after measuring.

Can Kh Keeper keep kh level on desired level?

KH keeper can make corrections using the connected dosing pump. This function allows the precise control of the KH parameter to the level determined. It will soon work also with calcium reactors and 3rd party pumps via Power Switcher.

Can I turn off the light indicator?

Yes. You can turn on or turn off the light indicator in the Smart reef application by clicking the SETTINGS button.

During the calibration the aquarium pump does not take the water. What happened?

Check that all connectors are connected, then check that the hose is not damaged, e.g. frayed or broken. Check if the hose in the pump head is not chafed and if the tubes in the beaker are properly installed (inserted into the plastic connectors).

The water filter must be completely submerged in the water, and its elements must not protrude above the water. After correctly placing the water filter inside the water, please click the “fill the circuit” button to pump out air bubbles and fill the full circuit with water.

Reagent pump is very noisey compared to other pumps

It’s very important to keep close measure over the reagent doses and because we want you to achieve precise results when you are using your KH keeper we’ve chosen a special motor for our reagent pump. It’s a step motor which is much more precise than a regular one. However, they tend to make more noise than regular pumps.
It’s perfectly normal for them to work louder than other pumps. The pump should work more and more quietly as time goes.
